The Transformative Power of Parivartan Yoga in Vedic Astrology

‘Parivartana’ means ‘exchange’. Parivartana Yoga is a Yoga in Vedic astrology. It occurs when two planets exchange their houses mutually. Thus, one planet occupies the house of another planet and vice versa. When this happens, the 2 planets act as if they are sitting in their own houses. Both will try to boost the significations of the house they are occupying. A planet that is posited in its own house is very strong when it comes to giving results to the native. In Parivartana Yoga, the two planets in question will behave in a similar fashion. When they exchange their houses, they become linked together like a mutual aspect.

Parivartan is very important in Vedic astrology as it involves the blending and interplay of planetary energies. This creates a unique combination of influences and qualities.

The Yoga also occurs when two planets occupy each other’s signs or Nakshatras. Thus, there are three types of Parivartana Yoga – Rashi Parivartan, Nakshatra Parivartan, and Karaka Parivartan.

What is Parivartana Yoga?

Let us explore them further.

Rashi Parivartan

If Mars is in Cancer and the Moon is in Aries, then they are occupying each other’s ruling sign. As per Vedic astrology, Cancer is governed by the Moon and Aries by Mars. This is Rashi Parivartan.

Nakshatra or Sukshma Parivartan

This occurs when the 2 planets occupy each other’s Nakshatras. For example, when Sun is in Magha nakshatra (which is ruled by Ketu), and Ketu is in Uttara Ashada nakshatra (which is ruled by the Sun).

 Karaka Parivartan

In Vedic astrology, each house has a planet as a significator or Karaka. The Sun is the Karaka/significator of the 1st house, while Jupiter is the Karaka/significator of the 2nd, 5th, 9th, and 11th houses. Mars is the Karaka/significator of the 3rd house, and Moon is the Karaka/significator of the 4th house. Saturn is the Karaka/significator of the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses, and Venus is the Karaka/significator of the 4th house.

So, when Jupiter is in the 1st house, and Sun is in the 2nd house, then there is a Karaka Parivartan between Jupiter and Sun. This is very powerful.

Maha Parivartan Yoga

This Yoga forms when the Lagna lord (lord of the Ascendant) is in parivartan with the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th lord.

Also, when the 5th lord is in parivartan with the 7th, 9th, 10th, or 11th lord, Maha Parivartan Yoga will occur.

This Yoga can bring wealth, status, good health, and all the positive results of the houses concerned.
